bishop d. ximenes belo house díli, timor Leste 1996 Nobel Peace Prize Due
to its symbolic and unique character, the home of the Nobel Peace Prize
winner (dating back to the 1930s and of Portuguese colonial style)
demanded, according to the will of its owner, its reconstruction and
maintenance of its original formal aspect. As the intention was to
maintain the building’s essence and its interior layout, the space was
rationalized using logic of shafts and symmetry maintaining the
existing proportions and functional organization. The finishes were in
accordance with the original construction with the addition of
traditional Portuguese tiles of artistic and decorative value.
