leather tanning museum alcanena, portugal In
addition to the programme and structural organization that justifies
the creation of this building, the project’s principles also aimed at
sustainable architecture. This way and as a museum requires the control
of natural light in its interior, a choice was made so this light only
comes in on the north, in the exhibition areas, reducing the use of
artificial light. The principle driving the architectural structure
and concept of this building is that of “skin” covering the whole
building, creating a balanced image of its construction. This option
organized the whole museum, leading to the clear distinction between
the various areas using loose and spontaneous forms, but also
simultaneously rigid ones, similar to that of an item of leather.
