ajuda de berço house - swatch fraldinhas project monsanto, lisbon, portugal The
“Fraldinhas” watch was created by Swatch in the context of a solidarity
campaign whose main goal was to offer a new home for the “Ajuda de
Berço” society (a non-profit organization that takes care of abandoned
babies and small children). The new house was inaugurated the 8th july of 2004, being the result of the
refurbishing of a set of rundown rural dwellings, offered by the Lisbon
town hall. The architecture proposal merges the set of dwellings into just one house, but keeps the outer façades' design. The
new house is now divided in three major areas: the Administrative Area,
the Central Area and the Babies Area, with three different colours in
the corresponding outer façades (blue, yellow and red). In the
inside, next to the courtyard (an open air playground for the
children), a new solid volume appears, coated with copper.
